Why You Should Schedule Regular Visits With Your Veterinarian

Pet Wellness Exam

Veterinary medicine is a profession of multi-layered responsibilities — one in which veterinarians provide medical care for your beloved pet companions and play a crucial role in maintaining the health and wellness of animals from the beginning stages of life.

Here at the Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt, our care team does its absolute best to work with pet owners in the Summerfield area to understand the importance of scheduling regular visits at our clinic and hospital.

Regular wellness exams can not only detect a problem in its early stages but can also prevent diseases that would be costly to treat.

Wellness exams establish a baseline for your pet

When pet owners skip a wellness exam, they often relay a message to the veterinarian that there's no need to bring a perfectly healthy animal for a checkup. What many don't realize is that certain breeds of animals are predisposed to health problems our staff will be able to identify.

Simply put, regular wellness exams establish a baseline of health for your pet used to identify any future health concerns. As pets age much more rapidly than their human counterparts, maintaining a schedule of regular checkups is the best course of action to keep your best friend active and lively for years to come.

What's Included in a Wellness Visit?

Every pet that we do a checkup on is different. That's why our veterinarian will recommend a wellness program based on your pet's breed, age, lifestyle, outdoor activities, and overall health.

A general wellness visit typically includes a head-to-tail exam and is the best time to begin a vaccine regiment to protect against disease. Depending on your pet's age, we may also recommend bloodwork and other tests.

Wellness exams are generally done once a year, but we may recommend a visit at least every 6 months for senior pets and those with chronic health conditions.

The staff here at the Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt will be happy to discuss our wellness services and answer any questions you might have. Call (336) 643-2229 or visit us in Summerfield today.

Testimonials

Feedback from our clients

  • "I have been taking my 16 year old lab, Oscar, to this vet since he came to me in 2004, and I wouldn't take any of my dogs anywhere else! They are so wonderful with both pets and people. I would recommend any of the doctors and staff to anyone."

  • "We have been going to another vet for years. We wanted to have our year old Wheaten Terrier, Rylee spayed by laparoscopy so she would have less pain and be back to her usual activity in 2-3 days instead of 10-14 days. Our vet does the traditional spay. We had a consult meet and greet with Dr. Courtney Pierce. She answered all our questions and so friendly and professional. They have a state of the art OR suite. Rylee did great. On post op day three she spotted a squirrel and did an all out chase with no ill effects! All the staff were great."

  • "I love Dr. Jernigan at AHLB and would never take my dog anywhere else! The staff is excellent with animals and always professional, courteous and respectful to owners. I have trusted this animal hospital for all of my dog's care, including check ups, surgeries (she's had three!) and for boarding when we have to go out of town. Every experience I have had here has been wonderful and I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a veterinary office for their furry children!."
