How to Prepare Your Cat for Surgery?

Preparing Your Cat for Surgery in Summerfield

At The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt in Summerfield, NC, our veterinarians perform many different types of cat surgeries from exploratory, trauma-related to a spay or neuter. We understand that it is important for your cat to be as comfortable as possible while in our care, and we understand the importance of helping your cat be comfortable going into surgery.  Here are a few tips for preparing your cat for surgery.

Before Pet Surgery Recommendations

We understand that your pet having surgery can be stressful, but we recommend you being calm which will result in your cat being calm. We also suggest keeping your cat's routine as normal as possible, however, one adjustment that may have to occur is the time you feed your cat. When your cat is going to have surgery, one of our vets should provide you with a checklist of the details to help you prep your cat. It is also important that if you have any questions, please reach out. It is important that we do everything to help you feel comfortable with the procedure your cat will be having and that you ultimately feel prepared.

Bringing Your Cat in For Pet Surgery in Summerfield

If your cat takes medication in the morning, you can give it to them unless our veterinarian tells you otherwise. If possible, put your cat in a carrier. Our veterinary techs will help prep your cat for their surgery. On the day of surgery, we stress the importance of arriving at the scheduled time, if possible even a few minutes early. Once you bring your cat into our animal hospital we will do everything to make sure your cat has a smooth surgery.

Testimonials

Feedback from our clients

  • "I have been taking my 16 year old lab, Oscar, to this vet since he came to me in 2004, and I wouldn't take any of my dogs anywhere else! They are so wonderful with both pets and people. I would recommend any of the doctors and staff to anyone."

  • "We have been going to another vet for years. We wanted to have our year old Wheaten Terrier, Rylee spayed by laparoscopy so she would have less pain and be back to her usual activity in 2-3 days instead of 10-14 days. Our vet does the traditional spay. We had a consult meet and greet with Dr. Courtney Pierce. She answered all our questions and so friendly and professional. They have a state of the art OR suite. Rylee did great. On post op day three she spotted a squirrel and did an all out chase with no ill effects! All the staff were great."

  • "I love Dr. Jernigan at AHLB and would never take my dog anywhere else! The staff is excellent with animals and always professional, courteous and respectful to owners. I have trusted this animal hospital for all of my dog's care, including check ups, surgeries (she's had three!) and for boarding when we have to go out of town. Every experience I have had here has been wonderful and I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a veterinary office for their furry children!."
