Meet the friendly staff at The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt!
J. Linwood Jernigan
President, Chief Medical Officer, Veterinarian
Growing up in Whiteville, North Carolina, Dr. J. Linwood Jernigan’s home was within walking distance of a veterinary practice. In the seventh grade, Dr. Jernigan started working there. This early exposure to the veterinary profession convinced him that the animal care field was the only choice for him!
Upon entering college, Dr. Tess Jordan knew she wanted to get into the medical field and help patients, but she struggled to find her exact calling. It wasn’t until she started working at a local no-kill shelter that the pieces fell into place—Dr. Jordan realized veterinary medicine was where she was meant to be!
Dr. Courtney Pierce was born and raised in Massachusetts and moved to North Carolina at the age of 18 to attend North Carolina State University. Since graduating from veterinary school in 2008 she has practiced small animal general and emergency medicine in North Carolina and Virginia. In 2016 she joined the skilled and compassionate team at The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt and enjoys bonding with the clients and animals every day.
Born and raised in Greensboro, NC, Dr. Catherine Smith knew from an early age that she wanted to have a career in veterinary medicine. This passion only continued to grow as she continued down the educational path toward this goal. Dr. Smith attended Caldwell Academy for high school, Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC for undergrad with a study abroad semester in Queensland, Australia and finally down to Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama where she graduated in May 2015.
"I have been taking my 16 year old lab, Oscar, to this vet since he came to me in 2004, and I wouldn't take any of my dogs anywhere else! They are so wonderful with both pets and people. I would recommend any of the doctors and staff to anyone."
"We have been going to another vet for years. We wanted to have our year old Wheaten Terrier, Rylee spayed by laparoscopy so she would have less pain and be back to her usual activity in 2-3 days instead of 10-14 days. Our vet does the traditional spay. We had a consult meet and greet with Dr. Courtney Pierce. She answered all our questions and so friendly and professional. They have a state of the art OR suite. Rylee did great. On post op day three she spotted a squirrel and did an all out chase with no ill effects! All the staff were great."
"I love Dr. Jernigan at AHLB and would never take my dog anywhere else! The staff is excellent with animals and always professional, courteous and respectful to owners. I have trusted this animal hospital for all of my dog's care, including check ups, surgeries (she's had three!) and for boarding when we have to go out of town. Every experience I have had here has been wonderful and I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a veterinary office for their furry children!."
