Dr Catherine Smith

Meet the friendly staff at The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt!

Catherine Smith
Associate Veterinarian
Born and raised in Greensboro, NC, Dr. Catherine Smith knew from an early age that she wanted to have a career in veterinary medicine. This passion only continued to grow as she continued down the educational path toward this goal. Dr. Smith attended Caldwell Academy for high school, Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC for undergrad with a study abroad semester in Queensland, Australia and finally down to Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama where she graduated in May 2015.

Dr. Smith was immediately drawn to the pace and relational aspect of small animal medicine and was blessed to return to Greensboro/Summerfield to start her career. Dr. Smith enjoys building relationships with her patients and their owners and is continuing to build her surgical skills through laparoscopic techniques. Additionally, Dr. Smith is an advocate for laser therapy and the numerous beneficial uses it has in veterinary medicine. Most specifically, Dr. Smith has seen the positive effects is has on decreasing pain and inflammation associated with arthritis that decreases mobility in aging pets. Dr. Smith has two rescued dogs, one of which was her second junior surgery dog at Auburn. They are great companions and enjoy walks in the park on bright sunny days. Outside of practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, attending her church in Greensboro, playing soccer and staying active whether at the gym or hiking around North Carolina. Dr. Smith enjoys to travel and has had the opportunity to go on several veterinary related mission trips to Mexico and Mongolia. She hopes to continue to explore the world for leisure and for missions when given the opportunity.

Feedback from our clients

  • "I have been taking my 16 year old lab, Oscar, to this vet since he came to me in 2004, and I wouldn't take any of my dogs anywhere else! They are so wonderful with both pets and people. I would recommend any of the doctors and staff to anyone."

  • "We have been going to another vet for years. We wanted to have our year old Wheaten Terrier, Rylee spayed by laparoscopy so she would have less pain and be back to her usual activity in 2-3 days instead of 10-14 days. Our vet does the traditional spay. We had a consult meet and greet with Dr. Courtney Pierce. She answered all our questions and so friendly and professional. They have a state of the art OR suite. Rylee did great. On post op day three she spotted a squirrel and did an all out chase with no ill effects! All the staff were great."

  • "I love Dr. Jernigan at AHLB and would never take my dog anywhere else! The staff is excellent with animals and always professional, courteous and respectful to owners. I have trusted this animal hospital for all of my dog's care, including check ups, surgeries (she's had three!) and for boarding when we have to go out of town. Every experience I have had here has been wonderful and I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a veterinary office for their furry children!."
