Dr Courtney Pierce

Meet the friendly staff at The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt!

Courtney Pierce
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Courtney Pierce was born and raised in Massachusetts and moved to North Carolina at the age of 18 to attend North Carolina State University. Since graduating from veterinary school in 2008 she has practiced small animal general and emergency medicine in North Carolina and Virginia. In 2016 she joined the skilled and compassionate team at The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt and enjoys bonding with the clients and animals every day.

Dr. Pierce’s favorite part of being a veterinarian is being a part of the amazing bond between people and their pets. For her being available in a time of need is especially rewarding. Dr. Pierce is an avid surgeon and is particularly fond of utilizing minimally invasive techniques to reduce surgical pain and complications. She holds the distinction of being the first general practitioner in Greensboro to offer laparoscopic spays and has been practicing this technique since 2014. Dr. Pierce enjoys volunteering her time to help pets in need. She has traveled domestically and abroad to provide medical services to homeless and underprivileged animals. Locally, she served a term on the board of the Humane Society of the Piedmont and is a current member of the board of a non-profit called Dylan’s Hearts that provides financial assistance to pets in need of emergency care. Dr. Pierce and her husband Whit have two young sons and share their lives with several pets. They have three rescued dogs –Spencer, Vernon and Ernest Ham Biscuit (“Ernie” for short)—as well as two cats and two fish. When she isn’t spending time with her family or working Dr. Pierce enjoys getting on the river (she and Whit were professional whitewater rafting guides before starting their careers) and running long distances. She has completed over 10 half marathons and two full marathons!

Feedback from our clients

  • "I have been taking my 16 year old lab, Oscar, to this vet since he came to me in 2004, and I wouldn't take any of my dogs anywhere else! They are so wonderful with both pets and people. I would recommend any of the doctors and staff to anyone."

  • "We have been going to another vet for years. We wanted to have our year old Wheaten Terrier, Rylee spayed by laparoscopy so she would have less pain and be back to her usual activity in 2-3 days instead of 10-14 days. Our vet does the traditional spay. We had a consult meet and greet with Dr. Courtney Pierce. She answered all our questions and so friendly and professional. They have a state of the art OR suite. Rylee did great. On post op day three she spotted a squirrel and did an all out chase with no ill effects! All the staff were great."

  • "I love Dr. Jernigan at AHLB and would never take my dog anywhere else! The staff is excellent with animals and always professional, courteous and respectful to owners. I have trusted this animal hospital for all of my dog's care, including check ups, surgeries (she's had three!) and for boarding when we have to go out of town. Every experience I have had here has been wonderful and I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a veterinary office for their furry children!."
