Surgery Providing Excellent Care Since 2006

Surgery

Are worries about your pet’s upcoming operation keeping you up at night?

At The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt, we recognize the seriousness of bringing a pet in for surgery. We understand that you are placing your trust in us, and we don’t take our responsibility to you and your pet lightly. That’s why we make an ongoing effort to ensure that every surgery we perform is as safe and pain-free as possible. No surgery is ever considered “routine”, but rather we treat every procedure with the utmost care and attention.

All surgeries begin with thorough pre-operative preparation, including individualized pain management plans. We want to minimize risk as much as possible by planning for potential complications ahead of time and proactively managing your pet’s pain. This makes the entire surgical process go smoother and makes for a less stressful experience for your loved one.

The day of surgery, we’ll be here to answer your last minute questions and help your loved one get comfortable and settled in. A dedicated team member will remain with your pet, speaking soothingly and offering plenty of TLC as we prepare for surgery. Once safely sedated, we will work diligently to complete the procedure as swiftly and effectively as possible. This helps to reduce the amount of time your pet remains under anesthesia, further minimizing risk.

We are prepared to fulfill most surgical needs in our hospital, whether it be a spay, neuter, mass removal, cruciate ligament repair or something else. Our doctors frequently attend continuing education events to stay up-to-date on the most current techniques. As a result, your pet will receive the highest level of care and attention.

After surgery, your pet will be moved to our hospital recovery area. There we will continue to keep a close watch as he or she wakes up from anesthesia. In most cases, we will be able to send your pet home the same day as surgery. At the time of discharge, we’ll review all medications and aftercare instructions with you. We’ll also be available to answer any questions and address any concerns that may arise once you return home with your pet.

What is Laparoscopic Surgery?

Benefits of minimally invasive technique:

Laparoscopic surgery or “lap-surgery” utilizes the advantage of modern technology to perform traditionally invasive surgeries through tiny ports rather than making a large incision. Common procedures such as an ovariohysterectomy (spay) or liver biopsies can now be performed through three small openings, each the width of a pencil. This advanced technique allows the talented veterinarians at The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt to offer quicker recovery times, less trauma, and less post-surgical pain for your pet, should he or she need surgery.

We want your pet to get back to being part of the family as quickly as possible! This is one of the many ways that The Animal Hospital at Lake Brandt has adapted to become the premier veterinary hospital in the Greensboro/Summerfield area.
